After I watched it I had the strange feeling (again ? ) that something was wrong with it so I checked The Vigilant Citizen site out and since there was nothing about it there I thought I’ ll do myself an article on it .
Since there seems to be so much blatant,” in your face ” symbolism in music videos nowadays, it looks like the producers are taking a step back and employing a much subtler approach than before. When you first watch the video it seems pretty harmless at first but if you take some time to analyze it…Or maybe I’m just imagining things. Anyway, let’s see what we find out.
This is my first blog/post, if you can believe it, so please have patience with me since it will take me some time to get used to blogging, posting, correcting etc.

And I also want to point out that this is just my personal interpretation of this video so no harm intended.

So many questions and so few answers….There can be no definitive answer as to why, how etc. because frankly, we don’t really know for sure what’s going on. We all just have this feeling in our hearts that something is not right.

If you’re still asking me if this song is about a man/divorce etc ? I’ll have to say that I don’t know but, if it is so, he must be one HELL of a guy…. :-)

Isn’t it just a song about euphamisms for sex? Isn’t that what all pop music is? They need to appeal to the lowest common denominator to sell but they can’t openly sing about sex so they have to come up with all these euphamisms instead.
As for the video being “disturbing”. Isn’t that all the rage now? Being “edgey” and “dark” and “unsettling”. That’s what they want. There was a documentary about Toy Story once, where the animators described how the boss of Disney dropped into the studio and demanded that the movie be made “edgey” and “dark”. The term “edgey” is a euphamism the boss of Disney uses to describe stuff thats deliberately “inappropriate” and “unsettling”. The reason why they do this is because of psycological research done in the 1960’s. It puts people into a pshycological state that makes them more suggestible.
So the whole purpose of this video is to induce a certain psycological state in the viewer, which makes them more suggestible.

Yeah, I’ve also always seen it as her thoughts when she had malaria. She’s saying that while she was fighting this disease, she felt like if she died, her husband couldn’t have cared less, and she knew that while he was being all “I love you, I’m praying for you,” he was cheating on her, and that hurt her.
And Alouette might not mean anything. I grew up in Quebec, Canada, and we sang that in Kindergarten all the time. We didn’t listen to the words. It was just fun. I think the meaning of the song was, when she had Malaria everyone thought she would die and so she made a song about promises, and I think the black shadows were meant to be the pain of leading up to death and then at the end she was in a scene of light and I think that may have been a bit of relief from the hole song as being heaven.
